- As an infant accidentally blinded by a country doctor’s mustard poultice
- Her father passed away while she was a small child
- Married at 38—her only child died in infancy
- After 25 years of marriage widowed, lived 32 additional years alone
- Died at age 95
- Met every President in the White House in her latter years
- “Oh what a happy soul am I although I cannot see. I am resolved that in this world contented I will be. How many blessings I enjoy that other people don’t! To weep and sigh because I am blind, I cannot and I won’t” (Fanny age 8)
- Wrote unto 200 pseudo names.
- In 1873 Mrs Joseph Knapps remarked she had a tune with no words. Fanny knelt and said the tune had words and “Blessed Assurance” was born!
